Rat poison, or rodenticide, is dangerous for children and pets. Fortunately, natural methods of mouse control are safe yet still effective. The best natural strategy to get rid of mice is two-pronged: keep more from entering, then eliminate the ones that already made it inside.

Mice can enter your home through tiny little gaps the size of a dime. Pay particular attention to places where utility lines cable, television, etc. Seal the gaps. Use caulk to seal cracks around windows and door jambs. Check outside where your foundation meets the siding and seal gaps there, too. Shut doors tightly. This is a foundational skill for a reason, magic can be uncertain territory and learning to protect and defend yourself is paramount.

Learning defensive magic and prioritizing your security goes a long way toward giving you the confidence that you need to handle any situation that arises head on. This kind of spell is best done while you are calm. Excess negative energy from anger or other strong emotions could cause a more hex-like effect than you would like.

The result could be unintentional harm to your target as opposed to simply removing them from your life. Below are five different basic banishing spells as well as what each spell is good for and what its weaknesses may be. This spell is very simple to execute. Light the slip of paper on fire and drop it into the bowl. As it burns imagine your target leaving your life and then focus all of your attention on what your life will be like after the banishing takes effect.

When the paper is finished burning, you should dispose of the ashes away from your house, you can scatter them on the ground or into the wind or even just dump them into the trash bin outside of your house but get them away from you as soon as possible. Of course, proper care should be taken not to light yourself or anything else on fire. This banishing concoction gets its name from a folktale that tells of four thieves who, during the height of the Black Plague, would steal into peoples homes and rob them in the night.

Instead of catching the plague they grew healthy and rich. When they were finally apprehended they struck a bargain to trade their secret recipe in exchange for their freedom. To make 4 Thieves vinegar fill a mason jar or other airtight container loosely with your herbs fresh herbs are best.

Cover the herbs with apple cider vinegar and screw the lid on tightly. Label and date your jar. Store the vinegar in a cool dry place your pantry is ideal and gently shake it once a day for weeks. Strain the herbs out of the vinegar and your brew is ready to use! When your 4 Thieves vinegar is finished you can use it in a variety of ways.

Traditionally, sprinkling it over your doorstep is thought to ward away your enemies. I find the taste of the vinegar quite agreeable so if you're inclined to kitchen witchcraft you can include it in recipes it makes a lovely salad dressing to ward yourself against evil and even break spells placed on you. Begin by slowly sprinkling salt in a counterclockwise circle around you and your work area, visualize the salt creating a barrier, protecting you during your ritual.

Call the target of your banishing spell to mind and carve your intention into the candle. You may also wish to carve a banishing sigil into your candle. Set the candle into your candle holder and light it, speaking your intention aloud. If it feels good you can turn your intention into a mantra to chant while the candle burns. Allow the candle to burn itself out, this should be done on a fireproof surface and again, away from pets.

Depending on your choice of candle, it may take several hours to completely burn. Do not leave your candle unattended! This can be tricky if you use a taper candle, be gentle so as not to snap it. When the candle burns to this line you may blow it out and reserve the rest of the candle for another banishing spell.

Unsweetened coconut milk optional, it has protective properties and softens the skin but milk baths are not for everyone. This spell is one of my favorite methods of banishing. If you like you can light candles and turn the lights down, music is a nice addition but whatever makes a bath enjoyable for you is perfect.

Run your bath and add your Epsom salts, herbs, and if you like, a cup of coconut milk.Despite their small size, mice produce enough waste to rapidly make a habitat odorous. Because they are social, mice do best in pairs or small groups, which of course means more feces and, crucially, urine, the primary cause of smells from mouse waste.

A well-kept mouse cage should not have a particularly strong smell. A faint animal odor is inevitable with any mammal. If the smell is getting unpleasant, it's time to adopt a new routine. Replace the cage with a bigger one.

More space means more room for bedding, and more bedding material will absorb more urine and its smell. Your mice, of course, will appreciate the extra space. A rat cage might be suitable if all your mice are mature, as long as the bars of the cage are set closely enough together that the mice cannot poke their heads through.

Remove soiled bedding every day, or twice a day if necessary, using plastic tongs or a scoop. The mice may be using one area of the cage as the toilet, which makes this task straightforward. If not, just remove any bedding that has become damp with urine. Provide a hamster or rat litter tray. It is sometimes possible to toilet-train mice, at least partially. Clip the tray in the corner of the cage they appear to most frequently use as a toilet and add some heavily soiled bedding over a substrate of a different texture.

Clean the tray daily, replacing only some of the soiled litter each time. Leaving a bit in the tray reminds the hamsters where they do their business after you've cleaned it. Clean the cage completely once a week if it is a large one or twice if it is relatively small. Transfer the mice to a pet carrier or the old small cage if you have upgraded.

Dispose of used bedding and cardboard toys or boxes, all of which are suitable for home composting if you have a garden. Wash the cage, bowls and plastic toys with warm water and dish-washing liquid. Dry the cage thoroughly with paper towels, add fresh bedding, and place new cardboard accessories and all the permanent ones inside.

How to Care for Long Toed Salamanders. There are few less welcome visitors in the home than mice. Whether they cause you to shriek and jump on the furniture or not, they can cause material damage and spread disease.

That's according to a report from Rentokil Pest Control. This has been attributed to last summer's heatwave, creating perfect conditions for rodents to survive infancy, feed and breed.

They're being drawn to free-standing water sources near homes and, due to our recent cold weather spell, they're now seeking shelter and warmth in or near people's homes. If you suspect you've got mice, set up traps and block off possible entrances as soon as possible. Small dark droppings, shredded packaging, nests of paper and a sour smell are all signs of mice, and you may also hear them scuttling around at night. It's never just the one mouse. If you've seen one skulking around, there are more hiding somewhere.

How to Get Mice and Rats Out of Your Home Without Calling an Exterminator

The mice that invade your home may be resident house mice or merely taking refuge -on the hunt for food and warmth field micebut both have the same unhygienic habits that spread disease.

Because mice urinate to mark their territory, they contaminate food and can cause outbreaks of food poisoning. Because they are rodents they need to chew constantly, they are responsible for many fires when they bite through cables and wiring. There are a whole host of DIY repellent ideas including peppermint sprays, dryer sheet stuffings, cotton balls soaked in oil and cayenne pepper, etcbut there's little scientific evidence to back up the effectiveness of these solutions, and if you're not blocking off the route that the mice are entering through, it's not going to solve anything permanently.

This is the first step to properly getting rid of mice, and will help you know where to set your traps. A simple spring mousetrap is very effective, although you may also want to consider a disposable mousetrap or one that conceals the animal so you don't have to look at it when disposing of it. Carefully block entrance holes and set traps. Traps should be placed in areas where there is evidence of rodent activity, and will be more effective if they are put inside tunnels or set directly alongside walls.

Always use gloves when handling traps, as rodents tend to avoid anything with a human scent. They are also suspicious of changes in their environment, so for the first few days, provide bait chocolate, peanut butter and bacon are all good choices but don't actually set the trap. Being able to take the food without harm at first lulls them into a false sense of security, and they will approach the traps with less caution, making successful capture more likely.

Mice can fit through openings that are just half a centimetre wide! Look very carefully for any entry points and seal them with steel wool and caulk filler. While mice can eat through many things, they can't eat through steel wool or caulk. Mice can climb vertically too, so don't just look near the floor for ways that they might be getting in.

Make sure you check that the mice aren't coming into your garage. They could choose to live in your car and gnaw at wires near your engine, which causes serious damage.

Attach brush strips to the bottom any doors and your garage door so that mice can't squeeze themselves underneath them. For serious infestations, you should contact your local authority's environmental health officer, or a commercial pest control contractor.
